Interview Like a Pro: How to Meet the Interviewers Expectations | Recruiting in Motion

Interviewing is your opportunity to make a lasting impression on a hiring manager. How do you knock it out of the park and get that job offer? Interviewing like a pro and meeting the company’s expectations while still being authentically you is critical. Here are a few things you can do to showcase your skills and abilities and why they should hire you.

How Can You Meet an Interviewer’s Expectations in an Interview?

Dress to Impress

Clothes make an excellent first impression. When going to the interview, select professional, clean, wrinkle-free, and appropriate clothing for the environment. In most cases, a suit and tie for men, or you can skip the jacket and still wear a button-down shirt, slacks, and a tie. A skirt or pantsuit, professional dress, or separates are a good choice for women. Be sure to follow any specific instructions given to you by the person setting up your interview.

Research the Company

Before you interview, be sure to review the company information. This allows you to understand what they do and what they might be hiring for. Look at the website and LinkedIn information for the company and employees. You can create several questions to ask based on what you’ve learned.

Arrive Prepared

Look up the directions to the location and ensure you can be there on time. Arrive with copies of your resume and any portfolio information that might be helpful for the job. For example, if you’re interviewing for a graphics department admin position, you can show them a few small projects you’ve worked on.

Ask Questions

You always want to ask questions throughout the interview process. The conversation will usually be back and forth, so you may ask questions. At the end of the interview, the interviewer may also ask if you have any questions, and if you don’t want to say no. If you believe most things have been answered, you can ask, “What do you like most about working here?”

Follow Up

Finally, after your interview, send a follow-up to thank you email. This lets them know you’re interested and eager to hear more about the next steps. Address it personally and send it right away. You can also use this thank you email to add any information you may have forgotten in the interview.
